May 20^th, 1927 – Charles Lindbergh set flight from Roosevelt Field in Long Island, NY, bound for Paris, France. When he touched down in his plane, the Spirit of St. Louis, 33.5 hours later, he made history as the first nonstop, solo flier to complete the transatlantic journey. He was given nicknames like “Lucky Lindy” and the “Lone Eagle” by the papers celebrating this achievement. Though today it feels totally ordinary to fly across the ocean, Lindbergh’s flight was only 24 years after the Orville brother’s first successful flight.
May 1^st, 1941 – America’s breakfast staple, Cheerios, hit the shelves.
