February 29, 1692 – The first accusations of witchcraft were made in Salem, Massachusetts. Sarah Good, Sarah Osborne, and Tituba were suspected. The Salem Witch trials lasted over a year, and the ensuing mass hysteria led to 19 executions.

February 9, 1841 – The shortest presidential term came to an end when William Henry Harrison, the 9th U.S. President died thirty-one days after being sworn into office. When Harrison died of pneumonia, John Tyler became president. He was the first Vice President to take over office following the death of a president.
- February 1, 1960 – In downtown Greensboro, North Carolina, four young Black students from North Carolina’s Agricultural and Technical college staged a peaceful protest: a sit-in at Woolworth’s lunch counter.
